Exploring...

We are trying to get to know all of the areas in our mission better. It covers quite a large area. The northern boundary is in Lone Tree just south of Denver and continues south into New Mexico. After our Sunday meetings and baptism in Manassa, instead on driving home on our normal route through Waldenburg and Pueblo, we decided to go through Salida, where some of our sisters are serving in two small branches. On July 24th, we headed out of town and over new mountain passes. Salida is so cute and much larger than we expected.

We drove past beautiful gingerbread Victorians, and other unique homes on tree lined streets.

We drove down Main Street and parked across the street from Floyd's Barber Shop. Doesn't this place seriously look like Mayberry RFD? It still has a Five & Dime!

At the end of Main Street after crossing a bridge that goes over the Arkansas River, there is a huge S on the side of the mountain.

We decided to eat at a restaurant with a covered terrace that overlooked the Arkansas River called the Boathouse Cantina.

The food was delicious and we got to watch people floating down the river on boogie boards, in kayaks, and on inner tubes.  Looked like fun.  Perhaps a future vacation idea.

Across the street is River Walk Park.

Our week was filled with transfer meetings and a potluck in the mission office after all of the transfer plans were complete. Planning for 26 arriving Missionaries is hard and hungry work. Sr. Beier organized a delicious Mexican Feast...(I'm still getting used to taking photos. ) Next time I'll have photos of our hard working Housing and Referal Elders, Our Senior Missionaries, and the Assistants. They worked miracles! We couldn't have done it without them.

On Sunday, we got to see a little more of the mission. We had a speaking assignment in the Calhan Ward.  It's only about 30 minutes to the north east of the Mission Home but in a very rural part of the mission.

...we are definitely not in Colorado Springs anymore. Each area of the mission looks so different from the others. The ward is wonderful and they take such good care of our Missionaries. We enjoyed speaking in their Sacrament Meeting.

That same Sunday Evening, we had dinner with the local Area Seventy and all of the Stake Presidents in our mission and their wives and with the President and Matron of the Denver Colorado Temple. It was such a wonderful evening getting to know the leaders we will be serving with.

On Thursday, August 3rd, after we got the departing missionaries to the Airport and I had a little nap (it was such a busy two weeks...We were up at 4:30 am that day) ...

...I got to help Elder and Sr. Hammond, our Military relations missionaries at Peterson AFB, with their monthly community dinner at the Chapel on Base.  President Stevenson went to Pueblo to meet with the stake president there while I helped on the Air Force Base.

Our beautiful sister Missionaries who were there to help as well.

Sr. Hammond is so organized and sees to every detail. We cut the vegetables into shapes with little cookie cutters so they would be more appetizing to the children.

Elder and Sr. Hammond were wrapping sandwiches and mixing the salads.

We made over 400 mock Chick-fil-A sandwiches with all of the finishing touches.

I love her attention to detail!

She also made nut free Uncrustables...with Nutella and strawberry jam... (they were delish!) She ordered a special cutter that cut off the crust and sealed the edges...she's amazing..I didn't know there was such a thing!?!

The theme was "Back To School." The milk carton "milk money" was for donations to Big Brothers Big Sisters. Each of the lunch sacks had a little paper with a joke printed on it. They could fill the bags with the lunch items they wanted.

The hall was decorated with back packs, the tables were covered with butcher paper, crayons, pencils and other school supplies..... and then things really got busy. They fed over 300 people... It was such a fun day. I am so excited to get to help again.  Our Senior Couples do so much to serve and support the community. We love them!
